Apple's Electric Car Project a.k.a "The TITAN Project"
Apple's electric car project codenamed "TITAN" is currently undergoing research and development by Apple inc, till date apple has yet to comment about this project. This project was rumored to be approved by Apple's CEO Tim Cook in late 2014. Apple's co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs had plans to design and build a car at the time when Tesla debuted its first car.
It was rumored that the release date of this car was 2019, but the project has suffered through a series of setbacks that has
pushed the target date back to 2021, according to an article by Amir
Efrat. It is said that there are 1,000 engineers working on this project and being developed in a secret lab in Berlin,Germany. Apple could also be looking at building the vehicle in Vienna,Austria.
So, what about the actual car and how does it look? well, it is said that the prototype which Apple is working on resembles a minivan, but this is not confirmed and in the future that can very well change. As software is becoming very important in car nowadays, the car maybe very connected and Apple does develop software for cars. Apple has also teamed up with a South Korean company for developing batteries for self-driving cars but Apple is currently focusing on developing software for self driving cars instead of building the whole car from scratch.
CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk said that many employees of Tesla has gone to work at Apple and also said,"It's pretty hard to hide something if you hire over a thousand engineers to do it". BMW has rejected the offer of helping Apple building the car, Apple also hired Dan Dodge, the founder of QNX and one of the premiere experts in car software.
There are a lot of rumors of the "TITAN" project but for more,we will have to wait and see what Apple has to offer. The new apple car might give Tesla a run for its money.
