10GB/sec speed with Li-Fi?

Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) is a bidirectional, high-speed and fully networked wireless communication technology similar to Wi-Fi. The term "Li-Fi" was first coined by Harald Haas at TED global talks. We all know what Wi-Fi is, data is transmitted through Wi-Fi by radio frequency and it is the most popular Optical Wireless Communication(OWC) method.
Li-Fi uses light emitting(LED) diodes are used to deliver network, mobile, high speed communication in a similar manner to Wi-Fi, in short we can say that this is a method of transmitting data through every light we have. You are familiar to how Wi-Fi technology works, you simply have a router and a broadband connection and you can get data to your smartphone or any piece of technology that supports Wi-Fi technology. Now, think of getting data from the light you have installed in your room and with much faster data transmission as we all know light travels much faster than radio waves. The general term is Visible Light Communication(VLC) which, surprisingly dates back to 1880s. VLC works by switching the current to the LEDs off and on at a very high rate, too quick to be noticed by the human eye. The light waves cannot penetrate walls so the field of data transmission is shorter than transmitting data through radio waves or Wi-Fi.
In October 2011, companies and industry groups formed the Li-Fi consortium , to promote high-speed optical wireless systems and to overcome the limited amount of radio-based wireless spectrum available by exploiting a completely different part of the electromagnetic spectrum. VLC technology was exhibited in 2012 using Li-Fi By August 2013, data rates of over 1.6 Gbit/s were demonstrated over a single color LED. Wi-Fi has a limited capacity but Li-Fi has no limitations on capacity.
The visible light spectrum is 10,000 times larger than the entire radio frequency spectrum. Researchers have reached data rates of over 224GB/sec, which is much faster than typical fast broadband in 2013. PureLiFi demonstrated the first commercially available Li-Fi system, the Li-1st, at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
In April 2014, a Russian company Stins Coman announced the development of local Li-Fi network called BeamCaster their current record of transmitting data was 1.25 GB/sec and forseeing to boost it up to 5GB/sec. Sisoft, a Mexican company set a new record by reaching up to 10GB/sec using light spectrum emitted by LED lamps. There are many companies researching and developing this technology like Nakagawa Lab in Japan, Basic6, Velmenni, Zero1, Axrtek. There are many big companies entertaining this technology like Qualcomm, GE, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, OSRAM. It seems like the Li-Fi technology is not toofar away from us lets wait and see what the Li-Fi has to offer.
